dare dude, how did you get your car down to 2900#?

First I thought you were going to keep the small block.

My Duster weighs 3400# with me in it.Here's the combo.

Stock bottom end 68 440,452's mild port work..Mopar .528 solid cam 1.5 rockers.Performer RPM intake,Holley 750 dp,Schumacher headers,3500 stall convertor,3.91 gears and 150 hp of nos.Car runs consistance 11.59 to .65's.With your lighter car you would need to maybe use 200 hp to get to the high 10's.Maybe get a set of forged pistons for pease of mind.

5.0 guy's have been doing this for years.

Womanator did think hard about small block but I'am tired of replacing head gaskets. Also think it will be easier with a BB to reach my goal. Would rather stay away from nos. Will use alcohol though.  Also that weight is because of fibergass hood F fenders deck lid interior lightened also plexiglass. What do guys Think?  Alum. Main caps, good H beam rods, good pistons 12.1, 650 cam (maybe comp roller) or solid Maddog headers. Now heads!  I really would like some SR's ported or b Eddies ported?HuhHuhHuh?? Still thinking on oil pan setup?? Thanks for your thoughts suggestions!

I say the bottom end looks good. Id Go with 440-1s though, the sr's will need more porting to get what you want.
And you want a solid roller, with 280-285d @ .050 and .700+ on the lift. 13.5-14 to 1 if you are running alchy.
A 1050 dominator and 2"  headers.
Easy 10s to high 9s well tuned.

69 Swinger,3.54 Dana, 400/499, Stealth heads, Crower 262/266d, .686/.696L roller,11 to 1, 950 Bigs, E85 carb.
Best so far,   10.82 @ 124mph through the mufflers.

that's more of a mid low nine second combination behind only 2900lbs....pull back the duration about 20 degrees comp down a bit and the sr's with porting will work well with the smaller cubic inches 1050 and 2 inch will do the trick.....the last combo i built for a guy was basically just that but with only midly worked stage 6 heads 12.1 0.630 lift the rest what i said and at 3400lbs ran 10 flat at 137 mph the stage 6 need at lot of work to just flow what the sr's do stock{yes the 6's can work awesome with even more work done}...but with just some proper work to the sr's or victors will get you their no prob 4 speed

Cheesy You are so right, next tires I put on the Kidd will be 9" even with the torque the 512 has I think with 457 gears 9x30s will work sub 1.40 short times.

It's got a cop motor, a 440 cubic inch plant, it's got cop tires, cop suspension, cop shocks. It's a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas.

Smiley It just seem to get 9.90s is easyer these days,a 9.90 car back then well run 8.6-s today throw money the horse power is the same to get the 9.90s I guess.I don't think you have to have 14"x33" to get 9.90s like the AA/SS cars back then.

That would be correct, the parts selection wasn`t there . Can you even imagine what kind of looks you`d get asking for aluminum heads for a small block or big block Mopar HuhHuh
You do however require the basics to get that 8.60 though , and they haven`t changed much. Oh yeah , check the tires on a few SS/AA cars I think you`ll find they`re still around that size , and then some .

I remember reading a magizine back in 1987, the 440 build was called shake and bake. They used the Mech. - 324 / 324 Duration - 620 / 620 mopar cam with the triple beehive valve springs. Tunnel ram with 2 x 850 DP to get 9.90 1/4 mile.

That DC Pro Gas Bracket Test looks very similar, just 5 yrs earlier. Dunno
