van straight axle
« on: March 17, 2006, 03:37:59 AM »

I was cruisin Pick-n-pull today and noticed an old dodge van with a complete straight axle set-up and thought it might be fun converting the '66 GT to a straight axle.  Is this worth the work or not?  Would it still be drivable on the street?  Is there a disc brake swap for these? Or would it be a waste of time?  Just a thought.

I guess that all depends on whether you're after the old 60's gasser look, and how bad you want it.  As for the disc brake conversion.....probably, but you'll have to start looking in street rod catalogs for it.  Not likely to be found at Summit or Jeg's.

I knew a guy with a straight axle in an el camino with a warmed up poncho 400.
Very scary car to ride in.
