New to All -Tire QuestionsAnd Wheel and Tire Combo's
« on: March 14, 2006, 09:00:37 AM »

Hey everyone. Just got me my first A body and it happens to have received a cajone transplant- a 67 440. Me likey! You'll see me ask stupid questions as I'm new to this. Bear with me. First Q; will a BFG 275/60-15 tire fit in the rear? And with a 15x8" rim with a 3-3/4" backspace? I want ARE Outlaw I's and they no longer make them with Mopar (4-1/4"  backspacing). Thx

Check out my pics in the post about Super Stock springs sagging on the right.  They are 275/60-15's on 15x8 factory wheels with 4 1/4 backspacing.  I think the 3 3/4 backspacing would be OK since I have only about 1/2 to 3/4 inch clearance between the tire sidewall and the leaf springs, so you would end up with better clearance.  I believe the Cuda and Duster wheelwells are about the same size.  Depending on how low your car sits you may have to trim or roll the wheel lips a bit.

I have 275/60/15's on 15X8 Torq Thrust II's with 4.5 BS wth the stock spring location. You mat need to trim the wheel well lip a little but there should be room under there.

I just bought a brand new set of 14 x 6 Magnum 500's and a set of P225-70R-14  B.F. Goodrich Radial T/A's for my son's 72 Dart Swinger.

Just put some 15x8 dragstars with P275x60x15 drag radials under a 69 dart.

Mine has Torq-Thrust II's 15X8 with 4 1/2 BS and 275/60/15's in a untouched wheel well on a '73 Dart Sport. My fronts are 215/65 15's on Torq-Thrust II's 15X7's with 3 1/2 BS. My headers are TTI so I don't have a problem with clearance. Tom

I have 225/70/14 on 14X6 Crager s/s on my 67 Dart. The rear on a Demon is much larger than the Dart, but the fronts should be the same and I would NOT put 225 70's on the front of an A Body again. they rub on the inner fender spalsh shield and I have to be real careful about turning and hitting bumps since it will hit on the top of the fender

I had a 70 Duster years ago and had G 60 14 on 7" deepdish on the rear, without air shocks, without a problem. I think that is a 235/60/14 in todays size.

6469mopar, did you have to do any trimming to get your tires to fit in the 64?

Well, after a trial fitment of a friend's set of 15x8 Mopar rims with 255/60-15 tires, I decided that those tires would work best. The new rims are 3-3/4" BS versus Mopar's 4-1/4". The new rims would bring the tires past the body line and that looks like crap. BTW, fronts will be 215/70-15 for a bit more narrow look.

My 70 Duster has 15X12's with 29.5X15.5's in the rear with full tubs, the springs into the frame rails and I trimed the wheel opening just a bit. My 67 Valiant has 17X8's front and back with 235/45 17's up front and 245/45/17's in the back with the springs on the stock hangers.

Hey 70 dustpan I've been thinking about the same combination on a 71 demon.  Do you know what back spacing you have on your duster?  Also do you have any pictures?  thanks  dave

We fit 28 x 9 M/T slicks on 15 x 7 wheels in the stock wheelwells on my boys Dart at the track.  Everything is stock on the body and suspension as nothing has been moved.  Ron

I've got a question regarding the fitment of 15x8 draglites on stock rear suspension locations.

any leaf spring rubbing issues with running a 5 1/2" offset in the rear?
any body rubbing issues with running a 4 1/2" offeset?

tried to search, but couldn't find anything on this.
thanks in advance.

Not sure but if it does it will be close. My son has 205/75-14's on the front of his Dart and its not alot of room left without trimming the wheelwells.  Ron
