Hi if you use the alterktion front end you could use shorty headers on a 440 ci. I'm going to use the alterkation on my 65 cuda , small block 360 ci. This will let me use 67 and up small block headers. If I use the stock front end I couldn't use later a body headers. Go to the RMS page and take a look at the gallery, there are pics of early a body with a small block with headers and  440 ci with shorty headers. Just food for though but this is what i'm going to do. Smiley Smiley

agree but there is the shorty headers for the 383 ci or 440 ci from Schumacher. They will fit in an early a body with Bill's alterKation front end.  Smiley Smiley

If anyone hasn't seen the latest issue of Mopar Muscle, they have a TTI header installation on a '65 Barracuda. Not much of an article, but enough pictures to get the gist of things. They didn't seem to mention the price either.

Most of the mystery of the fitting problems and/or questions for both the Doug and T.T.I. headers for early A body cars and small block V8 engines WITHOUT CARVING UP THE FENDERWELLS and WITH STOCK SUSPENSION were dealt with recently in a thread on the early Valiant/Barracuda mailing list, from a guy who has done it!:

dmapes@erols.com Wrote:

Ok, I pulled the TTI install directions out of the box (they are only so-so at best the Doug's install instructions are MUCH better).
The instructions say the stock 64-66 122 tooth clutch set up is fine with the MOPAR mini starter, all other transmision/chutch set-ups
require the TTI Powermaster starter (this doesn't jibe with my recolection of my phone call last year, but there you got, 50 aint
that far off).

They DO say that the TTIs will fit with power steering, but you column shifted folks are SOL for both TTI and Doug's.

The Doug's headers fit either an A904 or an A833 car (122 tooth fly wheel only), with the either a standard factory starter or the MOPAR
mini starter (I've had both on the GoldFish's A904 with the Doug's Headers).  But the Doug's headers don't fit power steering.
You should check directly with TTI on this.

And of course, his last sentence is the most relevant.

Hi,  I'm new to the forum... but have to add my 2 cents here... I fought on and off for 2 weeks with the install of these on my 64 Dart with a 340 and a 904 push button. It was miserable!, and I did it on a lift!! I can't imagine doing this on a set of jack stands. The drivers side was the worst. The first header for that side went back to TTI after about 20 hrs of battle. They replaced it, and with much headache and modification to the steering column, brake lines, motor mount changes and power steering lines I got it in. These are not for the weak of heart! The other side was not to bad. They are unbeleivably tight.I ordered them coated, wich was next to impossable not to  F#$&  up fighting them in. I think I had one of the very first sets they made, so maybe they have worked out some bugs. Now that they are in they look great and dont hit anything except one torsion bar a little when in reverse... and I can feel a huge gain over the 273 manifolds that were on it. It was almost worth it. I also could not get the 3"tail pipe to clear the shock/gas tank on the drivers side, so they sent me 2.5s which I used  from the mufflers back. Like I said I think I was one off the first sets to go out. I did this back in August. I have added a shot of the finished product at....

Thanks for the report from the "real world", kcmcuda, and you do indeed have a sweet lookin' ride!  That little scoop
stickin' through the hood is so subtle that it's ALMOST invisible!  If I pulled up next to ya, my jaw would drop to
the FLOOR when I realized what i was lookin' at!!!  I would really like to see more pics, read more about it, etc.  It looks
to me like it should be the subject of a magazine article!!!

The craftsmanship and the leftover bits of the stock Dart, like the windshield washer BAG rellly tickled me.

Welcome to the site, and let's see more of your EARLY Dart.  I need to take some more pics of my pride
and joy, the 64ragtop.  I keep thinking about a set of old school Hilborn injector stacks stickin through the hood, but
the blower scoop (with the blower to back up the look) is WAY cool!

kcmcuda, that is one bad ass car, and welcome to bbd sign.
I do have one question for you. did you have to use the power master starter. I ordered my TTI's but did not order the starter. I was going to just use the mini starter.
Thanks for the pics, and if you have time would like to see more, especially in concerns with ground clearance.

kcmcuda - Hey! That's my car! I don't remember it having that hood scoop scoop though!? Please more pictures; I'm drooling already. What are the specs?

P.S. I just talked to Harold yesterday. He said it's been too cold to get much done, but soon...

Thanks for the warm welcome! As far as the Dart goes it has a steel crank 340, .30 over with 8.5 to one comp. a custom blower grind  comp cam, X heads with a little port and runner clean up. Carb is a Demon 750 blower carb. The blower is a litte guy, a 144 B+M that pushes about 6lbs on a cool day. The trans is the stock 904, that was rebuilt with Kevlar and redline bands and clutches. It still has the stock 8 1/4 open rear.( No traction what so ever!) That is going to be repaced this winter with a 355 8/34 posi. The whole car was redone about four years ago to factory specs with the 273. It was a nice original resto but not alot of fun to drive. I had a vision of an old school blower scoop sticking through the hood between the GT trim. So out cam the jig saw  ( my wife freeked),  but it turned out pretty cool. It also has the front disks off a 69 cuda, 383 torsion bars,  a firm feel power steering pump. Little by little the drive line is comming togeather. In answer to the starter questin, It does have the standard mini starter but I had to grind about an 1/8 inch off of the casting on one side to get clearance for the headers, no biggy. I will post a few more pictures....hey nice little red 63 convert! I think I like the grill on the 63 better than the 64.

Actually, it's a '64 car, but the big lights wouldn't fit the stock grill, so the P.O. installed the earlier year grill.  Kinda funny, though, I've been using the username "64ragtop" with a photoshopped front view of the car that clearly shows the grill on several groups for years and this is the first time someone's commented on the apparent discrepancy.  I've been waiting for someone to comment  Nice catch, kcmcuda!

Most excellent ride kcmcuda. I would love to pick your brain a little because I have a 340 going into my Valiant. I have the tti's sitting in the garage. I'm not looking forward to the install but my engine is completely out already. Very nice work. Love the engine and the paint is awesome.

kcmcuda This is a very nice ride! I spoke with some guys at TTI a month or so back and they talked to you and asked if it was OK and you siaid it was so they sent me a lot of picxs of youcar. Very very nice!

I have a 64 GT was a factory 273 Calif car fully loaded. I have had it since 74 and raced circle track, 1/4 mile etc spent more than 6K on the 273 was not really streetable.

Anyway much older now and am finishing up on a 416 stroker 340 . Car has had an 8 3/4 3.91 posi for years and a 727 with all the goodies too. I am thinking about removing the power steering and am going to pickup some of the new TTI stepups in Vegas next week and the Mopars at the strip. I did add front & rear sway bars, better suspension with larger tie rods etc and early 71 Dart front disc brakes with 11" rear plymouth racing rear drums.

I know that the headers are really going to be tuff, I wonder if I can set them in while the engine is out or best to wait? The driver side I know is the issue. The guys at TTI said they have made some tweaks so maybe they will be a little easier now? well 72 beers instead of 100+. I also was thinking of getting rid of the angle filter and oing a remote filter setup.

Couple questions on your ride:
1  What oil pan did you go with?  I ended up with a Kevco 6qt wanted the 7qt Mildon but was told it hits stoker cranks and was worried about the drag link clearance too.
2. Where did you get your power steering pump, box etc, and how does it feel compared to stock? ( as I mentioned I may do a manual box and reloacte the battery, just to darn tight under the hood. But maybe it is worth the pain to keep the PS?

I do want to go with the 3" exh. but am worried about the room. Also did you need to do anything with the crossmember for pipe room? Mine seems to fit against the frame real tight, maybe because at one time I had a member from a 4sp 65 S cuda in it?

Well any other input is appreciated.

Thanks again and I hope to post some pics soon.
PS: where did you get that scoop, man that is sweet, I either want that or the scoop on the new SEMA 2008 Challenger
