A Body Drum Question
« on: June 21, 2009, 07:41:22 AM »

Does anyone know if any company has made the A body 10x 1 3/4 brakes, but with the 4.5" bolt pattern for a bolt pattern conversion.  I may just redrill but just thought I'd ask. Thanks

You need to redrill, or redrill the axle and install new studs. I had my axles done.

Matt, did you buy new axles, or were you planning on redrilling yours?  I ask because my axles and drums are redrilled and I am getting ready to take them out and replace them with Moser axles I bought.  I just have to find a set of drums and backing plates from a big bolt pattern car first.

Hey, I was planning on having them redrilled, they are for my dad's 69 swinger.  He wanted to keep the a body rear drum and axle setup but have the BBP, will yours be for sale?

I have an extra  set of backing plates if you need them, they are the big ones (11" x 2.5").

If he hasn't done the front yet, SSBC has a SBP disc conversion for 10" drum cars that should be a little cheaper than a front disc and rear BP swap.

Matt, as soon as I find all the brake stuff so I can install my axles, they will be for sale.  The axles were filled and redrilled, with 1/2 inch screw in studs.  The brake drums were in good shape and are redrilled.  PM me, maybe we can work an exchange.

I haven't installed the front yet, but already have all the parts to do it.   Thank you for the info though!

It crossed my mind a while back that it should be easy enough to get some decent core rotors and redrill them for SBP up front. Wouldn't you think so?

Kinda like the Scarebird conversion except using late A body disc setup.

I believe the center register (hub) is quite a bit bigger on the late model brakes.

Yes this is true. The axle studs are the only thing keeping the drum centered and that puts extra strain on those studs. Not an ideal situation for sure. \/][

Matt, I tried to send you a message, but your PM box is full.  Please go ahead with the brake parts.  I can drive to you if it would be easier.
