Mopar Perf Offset Spring Kit - Hits tailpipe???
« on: June 25, 2009, 03:45:30 PM »

If I relocate rear springs inboard with the 0.8" Mopar Performance offset bracket kit on a 68 Dart, will the leaf spring hit the factory dual exhaust tailpipe?

Want to buy factory style exhaust tailpipes, looks like the tailpipe with chrome tip might provide more clearance than tailpipe with turndown.

On our 72 Scamp, we ran the relocation kit, 2.5" duals on a 383.  The tailpipes were right under the frame rails between the tank/spare well and springs.  Yes. the spring shackes hit the pipes.  We heated and dimpled in the side of the tubing for clearance.    Whew

Were those pipe turn downs or with factory chrome tips?  Also was that a factory dual system or custom?

If you use the offset kit and insist on tailpipes, you would be better to go with custom bent pipes.  There isn't a lot of room with the springs moved over.  Ask me how I know.

Farmington - were your tailpipes factory turndowns (centered under frame rail) or factory chrome tip (offset to tire well side of frame rail)?  It looks to me like the chrome tips might clear, due to being mounted to the tire well side of rail, instaed of hanging directly under the rail.

Does it have to be factory style exhaust. I can believe some of those /6 duals are stock (I know they aren't, it was an example) and some stock exhausts don't look it. Why not just try to generally get a somewhat factory style exhaust but to clear the spring kit?
