Topic: Creaky, squeaky front end - new, no poly... (Read 459 times)

I've got about 500 miles on all new front suspension. All bushings are rubber. No poly. Moog strut rod bushings (hockey pucks), Bill's tubular uppers with rubber bushed ends, new ball joints - everything. Addco sway bar.
It always had a slight rubber squeak sound while driving over rough ground - like a grass field - but I chalked it up to fresh rubber and a stiff suspension.
Lately though it's developed into a gawd-awful creak/groan over rough surfaces, primarily on the drivers side. Sometimes just turning the wheel from side to side on smooth road will do it. I can get some noise by jouncing the front corner of the car and feel it with my hand through the upper shock mount.
I ruled out the Addco sway bar today by removing it.
Any suggestions on pinpointing the source other than taking the whole front end apart? Sometimes it sounds almost as bad as my old D100 pickup with front end that I know is shot.

If I recall correctly, the suspension was loaded when everything was tightened.

Why are you driving around in grass fields?

It takes a Mopar to catch a Mopar.

Ha! Car shows. Spent two days at one this past weekend. Driving in and out was embarrassing with the noise.

Try squirting in some silicone grease. It won't hurt rubber either.

I did a disc brake conversion a few years ago and I went the cheap route using rubber. I had a groaning/creaking problem and it turned out being the upper control arms. Greased up the upper ball joints more and the sound went away. I thought the problem was more severe and would have never thought that upper ball joints would have been the main culprit in noise. Figured it would be the lower ball joints or bushings in the lower control arms.

Good suggestions so far guys - thanks. I'll be trying some of the "external" tricks before taking things apart. I'll look into that 3M silicone spray too.

sometimes cracked or pulled spot welds do that.
but that silicone spray should work for sure if it is just a rubber problem, stuff works real good.
