is it true about redrilling drums?

I just read that if you use redrilled small bolt pattern axels that you have to use the Small bolt pattern drums and redrill the drums also.
Is this true?

Yes. You need to redrill those crazy flared drums. They're narrower.

Make sure you specify axles that are A body width with B body offset for the drums.  I redrilled mine, and one thing that I don't like is that there is no support behind the outer ring of the wheel centre. (the bolt holes are in a recess between two stamped rings)  I also don't like that the wheel no longer centres on the axle shaft end.  I am using stock steel rims and I am thinking about fabricating a 1/4 inch spacer, larger than the diameter of the stamped wheel ring, with a raised ledge on it around the axle shaft end to help centre the wheel also. Probably would have been easier to just order new axles. hammer

That's the better way to go for sure.
