Ignition

1974 Dart swinger. Car would start if while cranking you backed off the turn of the key just a little quickly but as soon as you let the key go it would die. I replaced the key unit, the switch, the ignition box, and the coil and the car wil not start unless I run a wire from the + post on the battery to the + post on the coil. What is wrong

Ballast resistor is bad!! Replace with a new one. Try joining the wires from each side of the ballst resistor together. It should start, and keep running.

Hey thanks for the reply. I pulled the connector plugs back a little and wrapped a wire around all the post and it started as you stated. I put on a new ballast and the same thing happens it wont start
