how hard is it to narrow a rear axle? is it something that I could do myself or is it better left to the pros? I have a chevy 3/4 ton frame sitting down in the field behind my house and it has a big axle that I would have to cut 5" off each side. providing I can cut straight, can this be done in the driveway?

you need a housing jig. easy to make if you have access to a lathe. otherwise, leave it to a pro. the housing ends have to be perfectly inline ans square to the carrier. you cant just go by the tubes, they can be tweaked a bit.
