Teach me about fuel cells.
« on: June 06, 2006, 08:17:50 PM »

I would like to get rid of the stock tank and spare tire well.  But this is a street car.
Can i get a fuel cell that has a sender to work the gas guage?
Can it be plumbed into the opriginal filler neck or maybe one behind a flip down license plate?
Anyone have any pics of what you replace the trunk floor with?
It seems to me it would need to be ribbed like the original as straight sheet metal is not very strong.

I have a 16 Gallon Summit Racing cell. It has a sending unit. I just used a flat piece of sheet metal but it should probably be braced with some 1x1 square stock under the floor.

summit or jegs also have an aluminum 16 gallon cell with sending unit available and in different colors. you could get it to use with your stock gauge or buy an aftermarket gauge.

Look up a decent chassis builder in your area. They will be able to roll some beads in the new floor to get some strength back in it. Or brace it like mentioned before.

on a safety note please ground the filler neck on your fuel cell. static electricity is not kind to your hotrod while filling up at the pump or out of the can.   explode
