What is Everyone Working On? Volume 2
« on: July 17, 2006, 12:02:10 AM »

Ok I guess it's time for a 2nd volume of "What is Everyone Working On?"...

I just finished painting the interior of the Demon, a word of advice to anyone planning a cage or roll bar...Paint all you can of it BEFORE installing in! Oh man that was a pain in the butt painting it in the car!...Pics coming soon....

Sometimes the simple ways are best: painted my cage with Ye Ol' Rattle can. almost 10 yrs ago now. still behaving and I haven't even waxed it...  ever!  Grin

Working on: 500+ CID B1 motor (final CID still under discussion), '68 Dart interior, Perefect fit A/C coming, 400 stroker for races in Nov, trans plant 30 gal OE tank into in-laws 85 crew cab (wife's ex-truck) 20 gals just isn't enough, Busa maintenance, Excursion maintenance, 3500 diesel washes (really need to get the kids to do that), lawn maintenance, Quads maintenance, replaced In-laws pool, Prep RR chassis for races in Nov, repair brakes on RR so can stop AT races in Nov, Measure up rear of Dart for wheels & tires, locate Pharmacist for morophine drip for wallet and given a break maybe sleep some.

Working on: Everything... lol

No seriously I have a crapload of wiring & interior work to be done. I'm debating whether or not to do the body and paint work now or wait until I have more mechanical stuff done.

Anyone have suggestions on what order to restore a car in?

Been working on a 5 horse go kart with belt drive and foot clutch. This is just till I find a good (free) way to make my vertical 15 horse cooperate with my horizontal axle. Anyone have a good miter box or right angle drive idea?

working on yard, trimming fruit trees, mulching trimmings, cleaning mulchings organizeing parts, taking care of fence, so my dog doesn't try to pull neighbor's dog thru gaps, keeping him calmed down after operation, yeah, right! the glue won't hold him to the floor anymore. body work on the dart, surprisingly going well, uh oh, must be doing something wrong, going to work, and actually getting to come home after awhile, fixing shower door runners, finding my list of things to do because I know there's more than just this to do. don't see how I missed placed it, it's a BIG list.

Trying to modify a fan shroud from an 84 302 cougar to fit the dart... seems to only need 2" knocked off one side and some notches in the bottom for hoses to make it fit

hey,I was thinking of the same thing.Vertical shafts are way abundant and cheaper. It would be sweet to fab some sort of ring and pinion set up.Sounds lengthy and complicated.Have you seen the superchargers they make for 5 hp briggs, pretty cool.$1,000(ouch).

Well, our Dart is being body-worked and painted right now, and it should be done by Friday. After that it's off to the upholsterer for all new carpet, pads, and all seat re-upholstery.

Then it will be done. Cool

Sorta ....I'm already thinking of upgrading our newly rebuilt 742 / 3.23 Sure Grip to a 489 /3.73....you know; to make it FASTER..

my 69 is close to ready for paint, i think im going to wait till the fall to continue on it though. doing some fab work on my 67 2dr sedan, which is way more fun than bodywork. minitub is half done, frame connectors, header rework, floor pans, roll cage blast and paint the engine compartment. thats what i have on my plate anyway, time is at a premo with the 1920's house projects. shit is getting old.

Finished installing the exhaust manifold on the wifes old Jeep after tapping new threads in the head after the rear stud sheared off.  Replaced the A/C evaportor in my '99 Ram 2500, man I have really missed the cool air.  Last Friday I shipped out the 69 B-body Dana 60 I sold on ebay.  Yesterday I finished puting my '49 Harley Flathead back together and took her for a ride.  Tomorrow, since I don't have the guages, I'm going to see how much the AF base auto hobby shop will charge me to service my A/C on the Ram.  I'm hoping Thursday to motivate myself enough to put a bunch more parts on ebay to make garage floor space to be able to get the barracuda inside to start installing the ladder bar suspension.  This weekend I'm going to put the old Jeep up for sale and call my buddy that wants to buy the flathead off me.  Next week my transom should be done for my pontoon so I'll need to reinstall the motor, I had one made out of fiberglass so it will outlast the rest of the boat, but before that I need to change out both prop seals on the motor.  Man, I can't wait to put her in the water for my first time.  She's a 24' Lowe w/ a 75 hp Merc that I only paid $1500 for.  I've seen boats just like it in worse shape sell for three times that.  She'll be great on the water just like she was soft on my wallet.  Grin

Well, I guess I have been working on my Jeep some. This is something that me and my dad built from the ground up back in 1996 with only 30 miles on the drivetrain, and it's seen about 180,000 hard miles since then. Motor still runs GREAT, but i'm starting to have other problems with it.

I had to drill and retap the holes for the caliper bolts the other day. Problem is, last time it was retapped, my uncle put one of them in crooked, so it binds up and breaks the top bolt every 3 months or so. So far it's been cheaper to just keep replacing the bolt then to replace the entire front end -.-;;

Also been working on trying to get my Amp setup and running. Never worked with any of it before, so it's been a pretty interesting experience, and so far, no, it's not working Tongue

Next I need to finish sandhing and primering the two passenger side doors, and realigning them. My mom drug the side of a Jeep down a brick mailbox before they gave it to me, so we had replaced the doors with some others from a junkyard. We had to do a quick swap with the doors, so the front one is WAY off in alignment (the body line is probably a good 1/2 inch off), and different colors. The whole thing needs to be repainted (really badly), so i'm trying to do some of the bodywork for it now, to get the costs down a little at least.

I'd also like to sand down and repaint my wheels sometime, they're getting pretty corroded and nasty looking now. :/

But hey, it stills runs GREAT, and my dad put new carpet and center console in it recently for me, so I can't complain Smiley She may look like crap, but i still love my Jeep Cheesy

I have parts galore but no motivation.  Within the next two weeks I hope to bend all my lines and get all my fittings right, mount my tranny cooler, get the supplies together and weld mounts onto my radiator, get my tranny/carb all hooked up, bolt down everything, and have it broken in by the end of the two weeks.  Before I can finish everything I have to pull the engine out and put the new mount insulator that I got from Schumacher in since the original bolt broke when I was tightening it.  I find it's all the little things that have been slowing down my project.  I'll buy a big part and then not have any money for stupid small things like fittings and tubing....

Yeah, that's the way it's always worked building our racecars. The big stuff is important and expensive and all, but it's really the small stuff that breaks your bank and your body >_>

Finally killed my tempo. I took out the battery, fender, front tires, starter, and pumped the fuel out of it to put in my parents' Astro van (if anybody is getting 10 gallons of free gas it sure as hell ain't the junkyard). Here's what she looks like now.

Oh yeah, I didn't want to risk peeling my POW-MIA decal off the decklid and ripping it, so I cut a section of it out. I'm gonna frame it.
