Well I took a look, and I'm going to need to pull the rad to get the shroud on, so that project is on hold for a little while. Bought a 1" spacer to bring the fan a little closer to the rad, got that installed, but the adjusting bolt hole on the alternator stripped when I tightened it. Noticed that the bearings on the alternator are starting to sound a little growly. Maybe tomorrow if I make an offering of a rebuilt alternator, my dart will allow me to drive it.

Working on the "Great Pumpkin". Pulled the 318 to freshen it up and found a broken main cap. Got another 318 from the bone yard, put bearings and rings in it. It's a very low-buck rebuild. I know how these little projects can suck all the money out of my Duster project, and I won't let it happen!

Got my dash, sail panels and ashtray scuffed down for paint (Demongirl did that for me ) Got my 2 bolt master cylinder installed, not bench bled yet but bolted in so I could bend up the brake lines and got the long line from prop valve to the passenger side front bent up...FYI working with brake line that comes in 25' coils is far far easier than the straight lengths! a little more pliabe and easier to work with, just have to take your time when straightening it out... Put in the rebuilt alternator to finish the fan spacer installation, and it didn't make it much cooler. On the bright side, the temperature outside was a little cooler today, so I could actually drive it without it going above 210 in traffic, down to about 190 on the highway. I guess it'll be an evening driver for a little while (which isn't such a bad thing), and next I think I'll toy with the secondary opening rate on the carb cause it seems a little too early.

My (supposedly) simple engine swap in the 88 Dakota is finally finished! I went from a 2.2 / 5sp to a 318 / 904. It is a box stock 2bbl, but has plenty of guts to haul / pull anything I need it to. I got it stickered this morning and can legally drive it now. I envy you guys that do not have to deal with the hassles of emmisions inspections - this was a pain in the tail to get through the tests!
Many thanks to the guys that helped me out on the project - Newbomb, 12secaarcuda, Mark Nixon, Larry408, mopartranman, slow motion, 68S (where ya at Pat?), my local gearheads Dave, Chris, Bob, Bill and Sean, the gang over at bionicdodge.com, and everyone else that provided parts and advise on the project!
Now that the drivetrain from the 67 convert is in the Dak, maybe I can get started on turning that pile-o-parts in the garage into a big block dart!
Thanks again, Ray

Well I am still working on the GTS. For those that have been keeping track over the years, yep it's still not done . Ok for an update. The paint is done, and I have been putting it back together since Jan. The engine is built and in, as well as the trans. My 3:91's didn't have a sure grip so I was forced to put my 4:10's in it . The entire front suspension is back in except for strut rods. The heater box is detailed and back in except for that long J-Hook that goes up through the center of the vent section. I have no idea where I put it. I finished detailing the wipers and installed them only to drop the wiper motor and break someting inside it. The pedals are back in and the shifter is detailed, but not back in yet. Still lots of work left to do on it, but hope to crank it by next weekend. Lots of work to get done first, and we are leaving for family vacation on Tuesday. Only for a couple of days though, will hit it again next weekend. -Dave

I got the March pullies installed, after spending 2 hours grinding the heads down on a set of allen head bolts for the water pump so they would clear the back side of the pulley. Then I ordered a new 7 blade fan and belt. I also got around to bleeding the rear brakes, and got a nice solid high pedal. I still have to recheck the fronts and change one spindle.

Pulled the dart infront of the garage this morning.........This weekend the motor is coming out and the engine is being rebuilt... I haven't fired the thing up in about 3 or 4 months, so when I started it.....I relized I missed the sound and the way it moves... Can't wait for the rebuild to be completed... Kevin383

The last post was July 18th??? Anyway, since the firewall is out of the car I decided to rewire everything. This happens every time I pull the motor out of the car. It just snowballs into this gigantic project and I end up spending MONTHS working on it. But, since I'll never have this angle again, I decided to take the extra time to make the under dash wiring as good as possible. I made a plate that bolts to some bungs on the nose bar. It has most of my electronics on it including relays for just about everything. The nitrous control and retard are in the glove box, with a little computer fan on one end to keep it from getting too hot. Did you know that an MSD 6AL will fit between the ash tray and the glove box? I didn't either, but it does. I sure hope this is the last time I go through all this crap. I'm getting tired of it [attachment deleted by admin]

Looks good man! I like how you organized all that crap on one plate... very nice. The electrical work and wiring is next on my "To-Do" list also. I've never wired a car before though so I'm not sure exactly what I'm getting myself into. Has anyone used the Painless Wiring Mopar Muscle Car chassis harness kit? I was thinking of getting this and ditching all of my old frayed/slashed wires. Thanks for the pics Cisco!

Well I gotta chase down a short in the dart (probably from when I mounted the battery and kill switch in back) who knows how long that will take. And now I gotta fix up my crown vic daily driver cuz I just hit a deer with it and messed up all the fiberglass and lights on the drivers front, tons of fun there. And oh yea fix my jet ski too, stupid fuel pump but hey it was free, so who could resist. And lastly help my dad clean out the unheated side of our shop/polebarn so we can get it poured and get a lift installed before the white stuff falls.(I live in Minnesota, so that could be anytime between October-January) And do all this while still going to college and working during the weekdays. But hey it wouldn't be fun if it wasn't a challenge.

OOOOOHHHH Doggy it's getting close to having a firewall again. Got the pieces bent and mocked up today. Will have as few holes as possible going through this thing, and they will be mostly hidden. Still need to make the rest of the trans tunnel and then trim that away. Lots of work and fitting, but overall it's been pretty easy work.

made my frame connectors this week ( cost me 6 bucks) hopefully weld them on this week as long as the rain stays away long enough. once thats done I will run the fuel lines and get the beast fired up again. gonna go with braided steel lines for fuel and trans lines. got the trans lines all done. looks good but expensive. hope the wife doesnt figure out how much it actually cost for the lines and fittings . after I get thats done I'm gonna fix the quarters....

Up 'til 2 AM last night. Got everything trimmed and fitted. The bottom half of the firewall is welded in, just need to fit the trans tunnel and it will be finished. The upper half is drilled for the master cylinder, and marked for all the bulkhead holes. I guess I was feeling especially productive, because I cut out the cowl vent bars and welded in a solid piece. I'm going to use thread-serts and mount the guages on the new panel. I had a heavy bracket that I made last year but it looked like crap. This will be nice and clean. More finish work to be done, I finally got tired at about 2 in the morning. So far, so good! well here we go, just finished trimming trees, which includes, chipping, first sharpening blades, blowing leaves & pieces into pile, which means tuning leaf blower/vac, repairing bag, putting debris into plastic bags & dumping, fixing wind chimes, put electric lines in for hot tub, before it gets here, painting, cleaning concrete also before it gets here, going to work in between & getting abused by customers, cleaned garage, so that when i get some time something on the car will get done, gutters need repair, touch up on redwood sauna /shed stain job, water lines to fruit trees dug up & repaired, new phone installed, truck maintenance, weed killing & pulling, visiting with friend that moved from Chicago, visiting with the P's, helping JAXX with recovery from surgery, boy that's a full time job right there, straighting up yard, so when the spa gets here, they can get to the patio to place it without trouble, assured by me for no delivery charge, scrubbed the shower tile, repaired the vacumm cleaner, that's enough my typing skills are in need of improvement. it never fails, foregot the most important, going to church and thanking JESUS for being able to do all this without to much pain.
