I am looking at the JC Whitney website and it notes that the spring shackle bushings are not included - is this a different bushing than what you guys have been talking about? Will I need new spring shackle bushings? sorry, I am a green horn - help me out.
Thanks

Yeah, those bushings are on the rear of the spring. A couple bucks at any auto parts store and the just slip in the spring eye.

Since we're talking about it, can anyone give me the diameter of the shackle bushings? I'm gonna machine them out of delrin or something like that but i don't have the diameter... And don't tell me to go and buy one at the local NAPA cause' they're only selling peugeot, bmw and citroen here! Thanks Marc

I just happen to have mine laying on the garage floor. Measures between .880-.890 holes are formed by bending spring so aren't perfectly round but close. Hope this helps.

Funny thing since I saw this post the other day. I had some springs off a car I bought for the taillights and then junked it and saved some parts off. It had newer looking springs and today I looked and they had a couple of ratty stickers on them. One said JC Whitney and also had a espo sticker on it. So it must be true that they are made for both places. Only problem is they are the 6 leaf springs. What is the best way to tame them down? It looks that the bottom 2 springs are just bolted on with the locating bolt. I dont really want to take apart the spring clamps. They are going on a 76 scamp I'm putting together with spare parts I have laying around. Thanks Craig

Ordered 4 leaf, leaf springs for my 68 Dart convertible waited 2 1/2 weeks - Got sent the wrong ones!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks to Miami340Duster and wrflyer for the measurements, and for pictures from frankwest I have been able to see and determine that springs with an oval (NOT round) big end, a 58 1/2" curve length overall, a 24" front bushing to centering bolt and a 1.200 bushing hole on the small end are just NOT going to fit no matter how determined I am to make it so. I have yet to talk to tech support - but the lady at the call center said maybe it was because I am in Canada. So what!!!!!!!- the car was built in the USA and my springs look nothing like the pictures posted here. I really hope they're as good to deal with as some of you say, because my car is going to be out prime time for 5 weeks because of this and I am not a happy camper. But, they are a fine looking spring and I look forward very much to seeing the right ones in place.

440wip sorry to hear that....they were very helpfull with me when i have had to call... i have a racetrack update with my springs.. went to the track in blistering 95+ heat and on 26x10 MH slicks went 2.0's (stock converter). the boys taped my 2 passes and said it spun a little. it didnt feel like it spun but all and all it felt good launching and i might play with a snubber and or clamps on the front segment if possible. anyone tried these springs in conjunction with cal tracks or traction devices??

i had ss springs in a 66 barracuda fit was fine,,,
a friend of mine just put those jc whitney springs in his car a few months ago a 74 scamp we put a 383 in,,put the high lift springs in he wanted the rear wheel wellls higher so the car sits more level,,the springs he took out were from a local spring shop,,and rode like my disel 2500 truck,,the jc whitney springs lifted the car and ride real nice,,
just for information,,,my dad always bought from jc whitney,,in the mid west it is know as warshocski ,,may not be spelled correctly,,,but it is one in the same store,,was family owned for years and years they were car people, had a car museum in the store in chicago,,,i guess the orignal owner passed on ,,and the store has been moved out to farm land in central ill,, but lots of people make fun of whitney parts,,,making it sound like walmart,,but not true,in the old days,,,and i hope still currently,,most stuff they sell is brand name re-packaged into no name boxes,,once i had bought fender well headers for a A body from them there were brand name and an intake manifold tunred out to be an offenhouser in a no name box,,so dont knock it till uve tried it,, just my 2 cents

new here toBBD. Has any one had and bad experiences with the JCW HD 5 leaf springs since they installed them, like wheel hop, sagging on one side or anything,???. I am toying with the idea of getting a set, it sounds like a good deal for the price. I'm thinking of the JCW Hd 5 leafs or the MP SS springs #s 002 and 003, but the MP SS's are $110.00 ea at most places. I will be putting these on my newly acquired 66 Dart GT, It's got worn stockers on it and "air shocks" (wohoo). I like this site I should have registered sooner.

Allright everybody, I finally got done with my rear end after a few months ith the weather down here in south florida being the way it is. I placed my car down on the rear wheels to move it around only to find that the rear shackles were binding....I had to take apart the brackets and the actual hangers. Please note that there is usually alot of residue left over inside of the rear hanger hole. You must clean that out really well. Also, I went out of my way and bought the Mopar Perf. Shackle buskings....for the rear (Poly Material). Not the rubber stock ones that you can still get at NAPA. They still cost about $6.00 to do both sides.(not bad). OK...to get to the point. You guys need to watch and measure your ride height when you are done. On my particular car, remembering back to my original post. It seemed like the Springs were too short front to rear. (Mesured straight fromn eyebolt to eyebolt. This is not correct. Refer back to my original and followe up post for how to measure correctly. I find that my car is riding very high. I have a large gap between the top of my tire and the lip on my whell opening (4inches or so). Point is that this shifts alot of weight towards the front of the car.....not good for drag racing. I guess that to quickly solve or compensate for this problems is to tighten the torsion bars in order to raise the front of the car. Then, obviously you start to look like a 4 wheel drive. Does anyone have a manual or tech article that shows how to measur the correct ride height procedure? My car is more for show than go.....will not affect me too much, Some of my buddies say that once my rear windshield, rear seat, and a full tank of gas will solve the little bit of height problems. About the shackles. ....Once I received my Mopar Perf bushings they would not fit into the rear hangar eyelet. Good on the sping itself though. I went to the extent to clean it out but no luck. So I took the backet out. This is the bracket that bolts diectly to the rear frame and holds the cross bolt of the shackles through it. My buddy at the machine shop helped me out and used a bore tool. We measured the outside diameter of the bushing in order to bore to that diameter. Keep in mind that if you over bore you then you create too much play and can easily mess up your bushings. What we ended up with was a cross bored cylinder. Looked real nice !!!!! But the best thing is that the bushing fit in there snug and would not bind. If it is too tight then you catch hell trying to push the cross bolts of the shackles though it. OH, BY THEWAY. You have to clean off the residue off of the shackle bolts. Those of you using after market shackles wont have these problems. One, yours are not 36 years old. Two, yours are all take apart. Original A-body shackles are one piece in that you add the hanger on the oposite side and then the nuts screw on to the shacle assembly. Now I have good travel, no binding and my shackles appear to be ready to travel towards the rear of the car as were designed. I'll post some before and after pictures soon. pictures

Got mine and I am starting to install them today. Can you tell me the proper way to remove the old springs and install the new ones? Can I do one side at a time? Only 2 jack stands here, Unbolt from the eye bolts or off the frame? I shot the bolts with PB blaster. Thanks

Still waiting for my THIRD set. I've never dealt with such a screwed up company (and I probably won't in the future). Actually they only sent one spring the second time around which really didn't matter because they still sent the wrong one. Tomorrow we do .

440WIP, don't be too hasty to get P.O.'d I had my bad experience myself. I ran a tracer on my first set and it turns out they were chcked in to the FEDEX Station in Olando 2 days after I oredred them. All of a sudden they get lost. J.C Whitney had to wait the maximum 10 day waiting period to initiate a tracer. Turns out that on the 10th day. FEDEX Still can't find the springs. Now you tell me how someone or an organization such as FEDEX which tracks everything electronically can lose a set of LEAF SPRINGS in their warehouse. turns out I got a second set shipped out that day (wednesday) and by that Saturday evening I had my springs. Turns out that FEDEX made special arrangements with JC Whitney to Saturday dEliver at no cost to me...That was cool, and I got my car done that weekend...good stuff. I want to say that your problems is at Shipping and not at JC Whitney!!!.

Sorry you misunderstood my rant - I'm not complaining about shipping. They are completely sending the wrong ones. They keep sending springs for a J or M body. Its getting frustrating. Thanks for the support though!
