brake booster size questions...

im getting my parts together and i've noticed a bump in my plans, i was told that the vac booster must be less than 9" to fit, but while i have got a vac booster, m.cyl, and bracket, i measured the booster today and noticed, tha diameter of the vac booster itself is 8.75" the clamp that holds it together adds almost another inch. when they say "vac booster must be under 9 inches" does this mean the overall diameter, or the booster inner bore size () must be less than 9"

would this be called a 8.75" or a 9.5" booster?
