400 - 440 exhaust?
« on: January 13, 2006, 04:57:38 PM »

What is the deal with 440 vs. 400 (tall vs short deck) exhaust?  in particular...aftermarket headers for the early A's.  What will fit what best?   Just thinking out loud about a low deck 400 in a 64.  What are the exhaust options.  are they the same as the 440.  fenderwells excluded.....

Hi,
Would these exhaust manifolds work on a 64 Dart / 383 motor? What kinda car were they originally on?  Do you have the part numbers?
    Thanks

ok, you have three options. If you are super patiant and creative, you can buy a weld up kit and make some custom fit headers. second- you can buy a set of headers for like 500 bux that you have to chop your fenerwells up to fit in. third-0 you can get some "b" body HP manifolds. they will fit fine. so it really depends on how much work you want. i would say go with the hp manifolds. look it up on ebay. " dodge big block hp manifolds". good luck.

where are you buying early big block a-body headders??     no one makes them yet.   as far as those manifolds go how hard are those plugs to get to??   they look like a real pain in the pictures..

headman makes a set. there is a bit of fender choping involved. at least thats what the description says. " headers exit through fender wells"  and i would guess that you would have to either take the manifolds out, or pull the motor to change the plugs. just dont burn the plugs up.

You have a 4th option I ran the exhaust out the front of the motor through the K-member then back under the car.
