Low Rumble

Mike Judd originally bought this '68 GT in 1987, complete with an ill-running 273 for, get this, 20 bucks!
He decided right away it should be a bigblock, and while he was at it, converted to a 4-speed.
It remained this way for 11 years until last spring when a few changes were made and he went back to a good ole 727.
To start the long list of modifications, the braced 8 3/4 is equipped with 4.10's, was narrowed 3-1/2" per side, and shortened b-body axles were used along with 11" drums to keep things under control. Mike then installed the Art Morrison ladder bars and coil-overs to complete the package. 15x10 Welds with 5" backspace and 325/50D/15 Hoosier Quick Time tires fit in the widened wheelwells.
The driveshaft you see is aluminum, and at the other end of it resides our good friend, the 727. It contains an A&A reverse/manual valve body, and a 9.5" Dynamic converter.
Front suspension mods include disk brakes and Magnum A-arms.

The sub-frame connectors were installed through the floor to stiffen things up, and the 6-point bar is attached to them using lengths of 2x2 tubing. The rest of the interior is standard race fare, including the racing buckets, harnesses, gauges, and a Cheetah shifter to keep it all in the right gear.

And, the moment you've all been waiting for...The monster within.

The Hughes-built  '69 440 was bored .040, and the factory crank was lightened. Stock rods are used along with Ross lightweight forged pistons and ARP bolts all-'round. An MP 557/296 solid cam works the valves in ported '62 Max-Wedge heads and Isky rockers were used for durability.
An 855 Holley is bolted to the Indy intake and is fed by a Mallory Comp140 pump plumbed to a 16gal. Jazz cell. An MSD 6AL handles spark along with an MSD billet distributor.
Exhaust is handled by 2" Hooker Competition Plus headers, 3.5" pipe and Flowmasters.

To lighten things up a bit, Mike removed the inner fenders and added the nice aluminum panels, and the hood, fenders, decklid and bumpers are now made of 'glass. All this brings the weight down to a respectable 2900lbs.

I'm sure you're all wondering about E.T.'s....well keep wondering because this beast is street only!
The closest strip is quite a ride for Mike, so he's currently content to keep the plates on it.
Speaking of the plates, I'd say Mike may have good reason to keep it on the street.... ;)
