Li'l Brat

Randy Reimer has always been a fan of A-bodies. In 1990, he decided it was time to build one of his own. He found this straight, nearly rust-free 69 which sported a 170 Slant 6 and three on the tree. The car was completely disassembled, stripped to bare metal, and the build-up commenced. The original steel was sprayed with Burgundy Metallic, but the Dart now wears PPG Mulberry base/clear with a 'glass Hemi Dart hood.

With the body freshened up and back in shape, Randy started building a good foundation. The A-body 8.75 was fitted with 4.56 gears and the axles were re-drilled for a 4.5" bolt circle. 3/8" wheel spacers allowed him to install B-body 2.5" drum brakes. 15X7 Cragar Super Lites hold 28X9 MT slicks. The 727 was rebuilt with all Turbo Action parts and uses a reverse valve body, 3800 9" converter, deep pan and a Cheetah Shifter with command center.

Front suspension starts with a 73-up K frame modified for bigblock use.
All new parts were used to re-assemble the suspension and 73-up disk brakes bring things to a halt.

The interior was updated with Summit seats, Moroso and Autometer gauges, 5 pt. harnesses, a CE 6 point bar, radio and heater delete plates, and all electronics are now housed under the dash.

Motive power for this new-old starts with a 69 std. bore 383. After a little machine work, Randy re-installed the Steel crank and rods, along with 10:1 flat top pistons. Stock port 906's do their breathing through stock valves which are opened by a 509 solid cam. A Team G intake holds a 2" spacer and 750 mechanical Holley which is fed from a Holley Blue pump. Exhaust is sent through old Hedman bigblock A-body headers and into 3" exhaust with Flowmasters.
Shortly after buying the car, Randy was diagnosed with Lou Gehrigs disease, which he said was a big motivator to get the car finished.
Built for the street, the car sees action on weekends and visits shows quite often. Although Randy can no longer drive the car, he says riding shotgun is almost as much fun, and really, the big reward is the pride of creating something so special.
