The Little Scamp That Could (Lift the Front Tires)

When Greg Zeneski of Southold, New York got tired of his Lil' Leaning Six and 3-on-the-tree, He decided his 72 Scamp deserved nothing less than
a nice 440 to pick up the pace a bit.
The Basin Street Blue A-body now runs a quite respectable 11.17 @ 120.89 MPH   ...Let's hear it for another 11 sec. leaf spring car....

If this car had even the slightest wave in it, you'd see it in this pic....That sucker is as straight as it gets....If anyone is doing body work on their cars, good luck getting it this straight!

The rear is a good ole 8 3/4" with 3.91's, Moser axles and a spool. It's mounted to stock smallblock springs with an offset shackle kit.
This allows the MT 26x10 slicks to fit in there, and they get some traction help in the form of Caltracs bars.
Greg also installed an S&W 6-point bar and made his own frame connectors to stiffen things up.
Trans of choice is a full manual 727 with a Dynamic 8" converter.

Greg started with a .030 over 440 block, and using a bucket of ARP fasteners, added Ross flat tops, Eagle H-beam rods and a steel crank.
An Engle solid cam has 250/259 dur. @ .050 and 570/581 lift. Crane 1.5 roller rockers power the 1.81 and 2.14 valves in a set of ported 452 heads and its topped off with an Edelbrock Victor intake and a 1000 Holley HP. Exhaust is handled by CPPA (now TTI) 2" underchassis headers into 3 1/2" x 3" Dr. Gas "X" from Scott Brown, 3" Dynomax welded Race Magnums with 3" tail pipes.
.
All this go is held in with home made solid mounts and bolts to an 8" Dynamic converter inside a manual 727.

As a side note, there were some tests which need mentioning. Gregs best time a one point was 11.38 @117.8 with a 1.60 60' time.
He swapped the flex fan for an electric, the M1 for the Victor, and installed the Dr. Gas crossover. These three changes alone got him to 11.17 @ 120.89 with a 1.56 60' ! That's a HUGE improvement for bolt on parts in a car like this. That intake's starting to look pretty nice :)

Greg states that the car runs fine on pump gas, but he uses the good stuff at the track to be safe.
Race gas or not, 11.17 with a licence plate is an impressive piece of iron, to be sure. This page will be updated as Greg makes even more changes, as I'm sure he will...stayed tuned....
