hi, yesterday was a bummer at the track. it appears my 8 3/4 489 456w/spool went poof. only had about 12 passes on it. not quite sure what the 498 is putting out due to a malfunctioning dyno i'm figuring 550-600 hp. 727
is there a way make the 8 3/4 fairly bullet proof? too old to be changing rears. thank you mopar world

Rear gears

You might try having a new ring & pinion cryogenically treated. We did this on the stock eliminator Dakota & have had No gear failures in over 300 passes. Just a thought for you.

My buddy who did mine always set the pattern deep, so that when you applied force to it, the pattern moved towards the center of the gear. My stroker makes 550-600 HP and over 600 ft/lbs of torque, and I have dozens of passes on it and so far everything is fine.
