I am relocating the battery to the trunk and wondered about what type of shut off switch? I am using an alternator and would like to know if anything has to be done special. Let me hear the ideas

I went with the Summit switch just because it was a lot cheaper than the brand name ones. A switch is a switch, why pay more.

Not really, the cheapo switches are reated for 20 amps, the starter draws much more than that. A cheap swtch is usually the culprit for some voltage drop between the battery and the starter. Do yourself a favor and get a good Flaming River switch, they are rated at 200 amps.

I got the Taylor piece from Summit. I think it was only a couple bucks more than the Summit one, but it also has the extra contacts for the alternator lead. They claim it's rated at 200 amps.

To be wired correctly for the track, the kill switch must kill the motor. Hence the name ::) If you have an alternator on the car and the factory wiring, the car will contiue to run on the alternator when you throw the switch. The simplest solution is to convert to a single wire alternator and wire it direct to the battery. o----o<>

Here's mine. It's mounted inside the trunk with a push/pull lever.

The knob sneaks through between the bumper and the tail light.

I still have to lable it with the "push off" lettering but have avoided it for about 7 years LOL

I am using the same Flaming river switch as Bigcube but it is mounted on the framerail and the rod sticks out under the valance panel. I had to make a guard for it so it didn't get covered in rubber or hit with something coming off the tire. Sorry I dont have any pics of it.

I mounted my flaming river switch next to the battery in the trunk on the pass side, the Mopar Muscle Valient article had some good pics of it probably 9 months ago.

You should check out Mark Hamilton's info at www.madelectrical.com, very good stuff and provides the info to do the job correctly with the necessary safety features.

I mounted mine to the center brace where the trunk latches, put a lever on it to make it a push-pull type, and brought it out right under the bumper, between it and the license plate.

Dartsports are different in the back, lots of room for switch.
