Doug's D-450 SB headers

Found my way into the EVBC forum, and found pictures of the Doug's Headers d-450 headers. I understand that these are patterned after the headers built for the semi famous "D-Darts" from 1966. They are virtual works of art, wending their way from the heads of an LA engine out and down through the available space and exiting under the chassis. See the pics at :

What I would really like to know is has anyone seen how these get installed???

I called Doug's (By way of the new owners Pertronics) and was told that the D-450s are catalogged, but there are none in stock and none scheduled for build. That they build some every once in a while, but the guy didn't know when anymore would be built.

Comments, more pics, better info much appreciated!

I just bought a set from Mazzolini racing, he is selling them for $699. They are nice, I haven't installed them yet but I am concerned about the 1-5/8 primaries and the 2-1/2" collectors for my combination. I will find out in the spring how they perform. ;D
They are a good looking header and are based on the D/Dart pieces (and I mean pieces - nine of them to make up the set). Hopefully TTI will come through.

Yeah if I lived in California, I could have let them use my
Valiant to build the prototype headers.

Too far away, if I was rich I would have drove out,and took a vacation.

LOL.

I have 2 1/4 duals that seem to work well, off the stock 273 manifolds,
but I am only at 318 cid, at the moment.

I'm with you. o[
Well, PHOOEY! 66dartman bought MY headers! I finally made up my mind to bite the bullet and go for the D-450 Dougs headers. I called Bob Mazzolini after reading that 66 guy's post about finding the d-450s there. Got his answering machine - "closed 'til the 29th..." So I called yesterday and Bob told me had had sold the (one) set he had "just a little while ago".

DAMNIT!!! <):

Well, Mazzolini told me He had no idea who else might have a set, and I told him that I had called Doug's (via Pertronics) and been told that none were scheduled for build and the guy didn't know when any would be built.

Oh well, like someone said, "If you snooze, you LOSE!)

The Good news is that I hear Harold will be building Spitfires after the first, so maybe that's what the fates have for me.

So, I hope you enjoy MY headers, 66dartguy!!! And if ya take any installation pictures, I would like to see how they go together. I guess it makes me a masochist, but I'd like to see what I missed.

i keep hearing that but have yet to get good contact info for him... if you get ahold of him let me know...

thanks,
joe
Most recent info I have found on Spitfire headers (and I have been looking!)

I just talked to Harold, on the phone. He said he hadn't got my messages, but just enlarged his shop, and was working overtime overtime at his regular job. He said he will be building the headers again, at the beginning of January. They have a redesigned outlet, that makes for an easier install. Harold said it is ok to post his phone number to the list, but please do not call until after the 1st of the year.
Cell phone for Harold: 479-650-9989

(End copied material)

So, I'm waiting 'til "after the first" like some other folks I've bumped into while on this search
cool thanks... i'm sure his phone will be ringing off the hook...

Hey 64ragtop, SORRY! <): Didn't realize that was the last set. There is a guy over on FABO, I think he is valiantwagonguy, he has a new set in the box. He might be talked into selling.
Abodyjoe, what's the wagon got in it and what does it run?
i think it had a 360 in it... i saw the car at carlisle..
66dartman, how are those headers working out for you? I hope you're not too guilt tripped to get 'em on and enjoy 'em - I wouldn't be!!! Like I said earlier, "If ya snooze, ya lose!" I asked just a little bit late.
I found the guy you mentioned on FABO and sent him a PM. Thanks for the lead. One of his posts mentioned seeing a set on ebay for about a grand. If he really wants that, I'll be talking to the Spitfire guy!
I just scored a '47 Dodge pickup, and don't have a grand for a set of headers! :'(

I cried all night about buying the last set out from under you 64ragtop )(/*
Anyhow, I haven't installed them yet, still building the 360 for install in the car. They are very well made, there is a guy who has a set on his 66 that I saw at a Mopar show out here and they look and work very well. I just wish they had 1-3/4 primaries and 3" collectors for the combination I am building, but they are better than anything else out there. ;D ;D
It is so insane that we have to scramble to pay inflated prices for really nice headers..nothing will make you want to sneak out in the middle of the night and go buy a mustang like the sweet sound of someone telling you the headers you need, which cost up to $$900.00 are not in stock and he is not sure "if the guy will even build them anymore"
Maybe they'd build some if they had a group buy?
G
Hey 64ragtop, have you tried Mayo performance out of California for the Dougs D450 headers? They have had them in the past. Just a thought..... :)
i just talked to harold yesterday.. he says by the end of jan. he will be making spitfires again.. he is suposed to call me when he starts.. seemed like a nice guy... he said he will be sending them out C.O.D until the poor feedback from the past passes over.... should be interenting. we will see..
Well, I got a lead on a set of D-450s in Cal, via the early a-body list. I sent the money.
Hope he sends the headers!!! I'm usually not this trusting. I prefer to think it's not cynical,
it's experienced! )(/*
