The MAD article on bypassing the amp and direct wiring the alternator to the battery was used to modify the 74 Duster. The amp meter was converted to a voltmeter by Redline guages. The original alternator wire from the alt to the battery still has battery voltage with the key off as before the conversion. Should this wire be reconnected or eleminated?

If you want the now-converted guage to only read while the key is on you need to select a switched circuit to connect to it, or a relay to connect that circuit.

When the bypass of the alternator was made, a 10 guage wire was connected between the the alternator and battery. The original regulator wires remained connected to the alternator. The original wire from the battery through the amp meter to the alternator was disconnected at the alternator, this wire still has battery voltage with the key on or off. The ampeter was disconnected and the two wires were spliced this loccation.
