I think most of the frame connectors are 2x3. I've got some 1x3 milds steel stock. I'm wondering how what would work. Better than nothings....not as good at 2x3 I'm sure. I'm just thinking: a) I already have the metal b) I can keep it pretty flush to the floor for sure for brake cable clearance with the early A cable set up.

I used 1 x 3 and it works very well. I also used it to make a set for a 70 mach 1 with a built 390 and a low 12 second fox body mustang....no complaints yet.

I used 1.25" diameter tubing, welded side by side,and shaped to the contour of the floor. It's lighter than 2x3, and just as strong.
