front frame rails

has anyone made/fabed front frame rails out of box tubing(2x4 or 2x3). i am in the process of building and have stopped beacuse i have concerns about the origional factory rails. i am runnig hooker fender well headers 2" tubes. so all the front sheetmetal is gone(fiberglass front clip and hood) a plan to fabed floor/firewall/trans tunnel. i would like to keep the stock front suspension. any info would be great.

There are alot of parts cars out there. I would just get a donor car.
Do you have concerns because of rust issues, or because you question their strength with all that sheet metal removed? If rust is the concern I understand, but otherwise there are alot of cars that are hella fast running the set-up you are planning on with OE rails. If you are running bars from a cage down to the front rails thru your firewall even better.
Ditto. If the rails are in good shape, use a front bar from the cage in side out to the front of the rail. You can mount the shock or coilover to this bar, and if you think it needs more support run another bar down to the rail. Remember the rail is supported in two location by the K frame also. o----o<>

here is what i noticed i was fitting 440 in engine bay. fender wells completely removed, i am using comp eng motor plate i lowered the engine into place the front of frame was on jack stands and so was rear (at rear torque boxes) when engine weight was placed on motor plate the frame flexed about 3/4 of and inch.
