The fiberglass hood that I found weighs 20# and will be close to $400 with shipping. I am thinking about cutting as much support out of a stock hood and see how light I can get it. I don't have one to weigh at this time and wondered how much a stock one weighs.

I cut the bracing out of a hood once. I had to leave the perimeter intact, and the centre part of the bracing I removed probably only weighed 10 pounds.

So...it sounds like a 75# hood minus 10# of bracing would be approx 45# heavier than the fiberglass one. What do you all think about this, is $400 dollars acceptable to lose 45#?

Well, that's a good chunk of weight off the side where you want to lose it at. I'm gonna go fiberglass once I get the extra $$, course my stock hood is bent up pretty good.

If it were me I would spend the money and go with the glass hood. Like Lars said your loosing the weight where you need to.
