I cleaned up my K frame yesturday and found this, where the pivot pin for the LCA goes into the K frame it looks like someone welded a washer onto the K, probobly to fix a enlarged hole or something, but what makes me wonder even more is what looks like a metal, almost barrel shaped spacer between the LCA and K frame itself, is this normal or should I look for another K? Here's a couple pics..

Does anyone have a factory v8 K they could grab some measurements off for me? I want to atleast know if this thing is bent or what ever, seems like it might have come off a wrecked car, the mount for the steering box is cracked which I can fix and there's a couple other things that have been fixed but I need to know if this thing is beyond useable, the red lines in the pic is the dimensions I need, those should be enough to let me tell if it's screwed or not...

I have seen those washers before. The quality control on the k-members was something short of good. As for the space, that's normal and part of the LCA pivot. I've never noticed one to be barrel shaped, though.

These are the measurements of a straight untouched spool type that I have.

left front to right front 32 3/16" c-c.
left rear to right rear 32 3/16" c-c
diagonals both ways 34 1/4"

Also, who did they have weld these? The welds on mine look like bird poop.

Thanks guys, the more I look at this thing, the more I dislike it, I made a few phone calls and found one close by for a decent price, I keep finding more and more crap on this one that makes me want to not use it....Jamakin I would love an AlterK, but it's just not in the budget right now :-\

I myself have welded washers around the pivot pin in order to prevent the tube's welds from breaking. It is a common enough thing to happen with any Mopar of that era. I would not chuck it out - look over the welds - are they solid? Was the alignment ok with the car - did it drive straight, not wear the tires funny?
