Is there anything I can do to reduce weight of the K-Frame, or would this weaken it ???

Looking for a short term fix before going 'alterkation' ;D

it is not very heavy by itself, and it bends up pretty easy as is.

i never wieghed one but it must be around 25 lbs bare, and you would be hard pressed to remove 2lbs from it.

i would maybe just prepare for it's removal,by oiling the fastners that drop the whole thing out for the eventual replacement you have in mind.

i cut off the spotwelded lip all the way around and rewelded it. im sure it saved some weight, but i did it to clean things up and make easier access.
That's a great idea. I wish I had thought of that when I rewelded mine up.

I had that Milodon pan with the wedge shaped sump. It was a royal pain in the ass to get the motor in and out because the sump would catch on the K-member. I decided to make some room. I cut out the square you see in the pic and welded a piece of 1"x2" box tubing into the remaining piece to strengthen it. It's welded along the top and bottom, as well as plug welds along the front. Note that the motor mounts are gone - Not sure I'd do this if you're still using them.
