Does anyone know if you can get a shifter cable that doesn't run through the firewall and down through the headers to the transmission. This is on a 727.I was wondering if there was a cable that would come through the floor and mount the opposite way from the normal cable hook up.That way the shifter cable would stay away from the heat of the headers.

I think you have to get a specific rear-entry shifter setup from an aftermarket source. I know Hurst offers one, and I would be surprised if B&M didn't. What you may have to do is look at a shifter that you like, then see if it has the rear entry option. Summit or Jeg's may come in handy for this, too.
