I am going to smooth out my firewall this winter and was wondering what gauge sheet metal to use? Can anyone help?

Thanks

I used 16, at least that's what I think it was. I had it laying around. It was a VERY fine line getting the power right on my mig not to burn through, but turned out good.

I'm using 19 or 20 guage myself.  The stock firewall is .040".  I'm just about done smoothing mine - everything is cut out and I'm making cardboard templates for the new firewall. The biggest trick was welding the air box edges back together. I'm horrible at welding thin stuff doh

Good luck ;)

You want smoothed? Here is my brother in laws Duster. The bulkhead was relocated to the driver inner fender and he even filled the hood hinge slots and all holes and dimples on the inner fenders

That looks kick-ass! If mine looks even close to that good I'll be really happy. The only real differences I see is that I'm angling mine back below the master cylinder, and I'm replacing the entire firewall, all the way out to the kick panels. My bulkhead connector is under the dash and I'm just using a grommet by the roll cage nose bar. These pics aren't the greatest, but they should give you an idea. I picked up the sheet metal today, so I'll have more pics soon.
