STEERING LINKAGE AND OIL PAN INFO NEEDED

2081 Views 5 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  70Dustpan
I AM NEW TO THE SITE AND FIRST WANT TO SAY HI TO EVERYONE. I AM PUTTING A 383 IN MY 72 DUSTER THAT WAS AN ORIGINAL /6
CAR WITH ALL /6 STEERING AND K FRAME INSTALLED. I AM BUYING THE SHUMAKER MOTOR MOUNT ADAPTERS AND HEADERS. MY QUESTION IS CAN I USE THE /6 PITMAN ARM, IDLER ARM, AND STEERING LINKAGE WITH MY 383? AND WHAT OIL PAN DO I NEED. I JUST
DO NOT WANT THE STEERING TO HIT THE OIL PAN.

You best bet is a C body pan stamped 187 or 699 some are not stamped but are the same. The steering linkage may or may not hit and if it does a V8 link might give you some more room.
Did you read this article on the schumacher web site?

And by the way welcome to the site.

The link won't open to the article so just scroll down on the left window to the car craft article.
Out of all the A body's I've taken apart I have yet to see any difference in the /6 to V8 drag-link. There are 2 different ones for the 67 to 76 A body's. One for the 67-72 which the idler and pitman arm mount form the bottom and one for the 73-76 that they mount from the top.

Will the older swap into the newer K member?
Yep all will except the 67 odd ball idler arm. You have to keep the center link, idler arm, and the pitman arm together as a set-up.
