I just pulled apart my front suspension to do a disc brake upgrade and I was wondering about the stock T-bars. In measuring them with calipers; it seems that they are about .840 diameter. In looking through catalogs; .810 is the stock slant 6 car size; and I'm wondering if the previous owner might upgraded them? I bought it as a slant 6/ 904 driver, and the guy had done SOME work to it, although very minimal. My plan is to put a 360/727 into it. I've heard that cars that are used for drag racing only can get away with the .810 bars; but I'm going to use it on the street. Should I upgrade to the .890 bars? And what scenario would I be looking at using the stock bars on the street?

You really need bigger bars (.830" are stock /6 bars). In my opinion, when buying new bars, there is no reason to go smaller than .890" for a street car. Don't forget to upgrade the rear springs and add a sway bar.
